Individual identification numbers should be assigned to all reusable pieces of equipment (respirators may already have ID numbers) and records should be maintained by that number. At a minimum, each inspection should record the ID number, date, inspector, and any unusual conditions or findings. Periodic review of these records may indicate an item or type of item with excessive maintenance costs or a particularly high level of "down-time."
