Daycare Weekly Toy Cleaning

Setting the cleaning process for each "toy type" is critical. For some plastic, plexiglass lexan and metal toys, wiping down with a chlorine bleach solution may be the best method to kill germs. Others may need an enzymatic cleaner. For lightly soiled plush toys, a vacuum cleaner pass may be all that's needed, but for more soiled items, they may need the washing machine. A few seconds in a microwave may work for certain items, but not those containing polyester fiber which melts. For toys or upholstered furniture which have fabric parts, a professional upholstery cleaner may be required. Disinfecting and sterilizing anything that can go into the young child's mouth is a daily task.

Consider custom-documenting the types of heavy duty cleaners you will use, the chemicals they contain and handling/disposal instructions. As another part of your risk assessment, regular examination of toys is encouraged to look for yellowed plastic which might break, and stuffed animal soiling, already broken toys and items with sharp edges.
